Very nice resort, professionally organized.
You feel home from the first minute and the staff is very friendly and welcoming.
The diving team knows the area perfectly and can show you everything from big to very small.
The small kitchen is creating very good food from local to global specialties.
I enjoyed every day there and can fully recommend the resort.
Diving was superb. Best value in Mabini by far. Instructors and Dive master were professional and very safety conscious. Better facilities and gear than places that charge twice as much. Will definitely be patronizing this establishment.
I am only rating my diving experience as I did not stay here.
I did my 36th to 38th dives here as an AOW having dived exclusively in SEA. Unfortunately, I have never experienced such a neglect of safety considerations. From the inconvenience of being put together with all level divers and even courses in big groups and worn-off equipment (large holes in suits and boots) to mere neglect of diver‘s safety, I was really shocked by the lacking management of this organization.
During my 3 dives, there has never been a dive site, nor safety briefing. The buddy system was not being followed. They do not tell you when safety stop is started, so every time there were some divers still down below 6m during the 3 minutes, then suddenly being told to go up. This is all fun and games until something really happens, which it finally did during my last dive where we lost an inexperienced OW diver and she had to go up alone, risking deco, her not even having a computer. We spent 5 minutes searching which could have been avoided had there been buddies and a briefing, especially considering this being one of her first dives.
Additionally, my air valve was not opened fully, which leaded to me having issues breathing around 20m. Yes, I did safety check beforehand, which we were not even encouraged to do on the boat. In the shallow, my air was working. I ended up with a severe headache and a memory of a dive I would have rather not done.
During my entire stay, there was only one dive guide working, which means he barely got enough surface interval, dives were frequently delayed and the guide was tired all the time, especially there being a party on the weekend. While this risks deco for the guide, it can also be dangerous for his guests, making him inattentive.
Upon request, they let me not pay for this last dive and ground personnel was very understanding. Management however was putting the blame on me (and the girl who was lost), saying we are responsible for ourselves. I don’t agree, I pay for a guide to assign buddies, to lead me, to be able to trust him with my air. In diving it can get to very serious health concerns, which is why I would not dive with this company again. This is exactly why I usually only dive with companies recommended to me by befriended instructors.
Additionally, there is no briefing on environmental conscience and the dive guide is frequently touching marine life and one of the guests even walked on the reef with his fins. Divers should know better.
All ground personnel was very kind, though and the food is exceptional. Also, biodiversity in Anilao is good and diving here is a nice weekend passtime. Additionally, I really do not put the blame on the one dive guide and see it clearly as a management problem. There should be more dive personnel, a fix schedule, meetings on safety, equipment that is up to date etc. etc.
Overall, I am relieved nothing more serious happened and can only hope they will become more adamant about safety in the future. It really should not be up to the guest to watch out for their safety.
We had a lovely stay at Amathi Diving Resort! We actually booked a camp nearby but it was closed!! Luckily Tierry the owner gave us a spare room with an ocean view! The Staff is very welcoming and heartwarming. We immediately felt at home ❤️
I highly recommend this Resort, it has a great snorkeling and diving spot and we enjoyed the tranquility!
